This course will identify cultural competency in Real Estate and how to better connect with
clients in different cultures. After completing this course, real estate agents will have a better
awareness of cultural competency and will have tools to improve their own interactions with
clients of different cultures.

This course covers the body of federal law, New York State, and local
laws prohibiting discrimination in housing and real-estate-related transactions. The historical role of
the government reinforced racial segregation in housing is examined to promote a better understanding
as to how historical policies and practices have ongoing impacts perpetuating barriers to fair housing
and racial economic inequities, and what more can be done to address these barriers.
The course will specifically examine:

1) the historical role of government in establishing racial
segregation through planning, policies, and practice;

2) Federal, New York State, and Local Fair
Housing Laws and Protected Classes;

3) the historical role of the real estate industry;

4) Long Island
Divided: Newsday’s three-year investigative report;

5) New York State Senate Investigation,
Report and Recommendations;

6) New York State Legislation to Combat Fair Housing Violations;
and

7) the Real Estate Industry’s Response: an Equitable Pathway Forward.

About Our Instructors

Robin White

Robin White is a NY State License Associate Real Estate Broker with Keller Williams Realty Hudson Valley United and a NYS License Real Estate Instructor. Robin has over 27 years of experience in the industry and specializes in working with buyers and sellers throughout Orange, Ulster and lower Sullivan County.

Robin believes that accomplishing successful outcomes for her clients is her #1 priority. As a Realtor, Robin is committed to being a lifelong learner as well as educator. She has earned numerous designations with the National Association of Realtors including the Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR) and Home with Diversity in America.

She is also a Certified Buyers Representative (CBR). Robin enjoys spending time teaching and mentoring other real estate agents as well. Robin former sat on the Board of Directors for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County and serves on their Build the Park campaign. She has previously served as a Director for the Orange County Association of Realtors, Orange County United Way, Women’s Leadership Fund. Currently she is on the Orange County Chamber of Commerce DEIA committee and HGAR Leadership Acceleration Program and other civil organizations. Robin is passionate about giving back to the community and has found that her work in the community helping people makes her a better asset to her clients and gives her a greater understanding of the needs of an ever changing market. As an award winning real estate agent, Robin has achieved great accomplishments and numerous awards. However, she believes her greatest accomplishment is each time she successfully helps one of her fellow agents accomplish their goals of selling homes and growing their businesses.
